Absolutely horrifying! I once had to wage war against rats in the basement of an old farmhouse I was living in, but fortunately I was victorious. And I’m glad I hadn’t read anything like this at the time!

We have a cat who keeps the rats away. I don’t mind rats outside, but not in the house. Glad you won, the farmhouse sounds like a great setting for a story!

I’ve always had cat companions, too! But they weren’t allowed to venture into the farmhouse’s somewhat frightening basement. They were on standby if a rat or mouse dared to enter the living spaces, though! That house will probably show up in stories to come, lol.

Ugh, rats! We had a rat once — this story reminds me of the creepy scratching at night. Well done!

Thanks Nancy. I’m OK with rats, but prefer it if they stay outside.

I enjoyed reading the whole way through! Rats really can be a hassle sometimes.

Thanks Samira. I actually like rats although don’t want them in the house.

Just the mention of rats is enough to make flesh creep. We had them around the compost bins. Rosetta saw to them though I'd rather she hadn't also eaten them.

Wow—as someone who has had to deal with a rat scratching in the basement, this is too creepy! Well done!

Thanks Nancy. I’m OK with rats, but I know a lot of people are scared of them. Ghost rats are a different matter! 🤣

Thanks Emma. I like rats too, which is why they get their revenge!

Funnily enough, I don't mind them, although I don't want them in the house. Not that they would survive long as our elderly Maine coon is still a ferocious ratter.

Really great story! As an ex-rat owner I have a bit of a soft spot for these trouble makers 😂. But I’ve seen how quickly they can chew through plastic so wouldn’t want to upset a hoard of them.
